As you all know, Coachella is two weekend NEXT*year.

Just bought my ticket to the first weekend.

They’re only selling tickets til next Friday, so you’d better get on it. They’re also offering an 8-month 10% layaway plan. So if you decide to buy, you’re only getting charged 35-40 bucks each month..

COACHELLA - Where to start? Three days of playing in a desert wonderland. As Dangerous said, “Keep turning around, because any direction you look, 360 degrees, there’s something awesome to look at.” I have to admit that coming back to reality - and crashing straight back into intensive schoolwark - was jarring and painful. In pictures above please observe my homemade vest and headband. The skull shirt is this sheer long thing that I got for 10 cents in China about 4 years ago, fit terribly, and that I have always packed with me wherever I go because I truly believed it had potential. Well, there you fucking go. All I had to do was slice it.

My personal favorites were The Chemical Brothers, Arcade Fire (halfway through their set this large black rectangle was hoisted over the stage and hovered there for a few more songs, leading me to think that it might be accidentally dropped on the crowd in some sort of freak accident, but it turned out to be full of giant color-changing beach balls which were dropped on the audience. Also, they closed with Sprawl II, my favorite song), Death From Above 1979, Duck Sauce, and Trentemoller. The tempeh sandwiches from the vegetarian food booths were also to die for. And it doesn’t hurt that all of our friends are super rad, making for a weekend truly full of good vibes..

PS - H&M’s eco-conscious free water refilling tent was truly a lifesaver. Thank you guys.

Mercury Tears - Chromeo

Chromeo was hands down my favorite set at Coachella. It was like a religious experience. We were standing in the back on a hill, so that we could see all of the stage (love their signature woman’s legs keyboard stands) but had room to move and dance. Everyone around us was dancing like there was no tomorrow and most were holding glowsticks, the breeze was blowing and the sun was setting, the whole set-up was just ethereally beautiful. Their set jammed so hard. I think the Intro song from Fancy Footwork (“Chromeooo…OHHHHH”) will forever give me chills. Good chills.

Things I made last night. Vest is from Meggles, Ghostbusters patch is from New Orleans Comic Con when I went with Beezy, and then fabric paint and old makeup brushes did the rest. Headband is from target and studs are from eBay. It was tricky to make the studs stand erect (ha) but astronaut glue did the trick. It also made the metal on the studs white-hot. Frightening chemical reaction.

Better pics later! :)

I’m leaving New Orleans at 3:05 pm on Friday and landing at John Wayne airport at 7:30 PM. John’s lovely parents are going to leave his vehicle at the airport for me. I’m going to hop in it and drive straight to Coachella. Poll: Do you think I can catch the Chemical Brothers?

I refuse to be called a “BurkenDork” at any point in my life. But this program should be worth 10 credits. I haven’t been home in 15 hours. The conference is the same Friday that Coachella starts. I’m doing the conference in the morning and flying straight home for Coachella. Big pimpin.

Uhhh what… That is SO RAD!!!!!!!!!!! (I didn’t go last year)

8 months ago: I see a old woman wearing shades like these and ask John if it’s weird that I like them and want some.
5 months ago: I find out that Sabre is now making glasses like these for approximately $100.
Today: I find these shades at Gnome (on Decatur - one of the best stores in New Orleans for sure) for 10 bonez
Perfect for Coachella.. And they fit over my real glasses.
